Today is a special day for me. It’s my birthday. I am blessed to reach my 35th year.
Don’t worry, I’m not one of those people who feel the need to hide their age. I am proud of it. I’m also proud of how I look, who I am, and what I’ve experienced in life. They have all brought me to this very day. And I am grateful!
A few months ago, my eldest daughter asked me what do I want for my birthday. She’s so precious. She is someone who always wants to make special days…well, special. And little sister tags along behind her. But for the life of me I couldn’t answer her question truthfully. So many things were running through my mind at the time. Hoping for my prayers to be answered and dreams to come true, I was worried about many things. But it is so important that we know that as scripture says, “The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.” (Proverbs 16:9)
I may have specific plans or things I hope would happen in life but God knows better than I do what I really need. The truthful answer to my daughter’s question was that I wanted to spend a summer vacation with my family in Antigua.
There were many obstacles that stood in the way and made it near impossible to see my birthday wish come true. Life will sometimes throw many curve balls our way but it is necessary to believe that each day is a new day to start over, to try again, and to continue to seek a purpose.
“The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
It’s this reminder that allows us to push forward. Each day is an opportunity to enjoy all of God’s wonderful blessings…to slow down and take in God’s wonderful blessings. As we recognize what we have and where we currently are (mind, body, and spirit) we will be able to see where we are headed. And most certainly, God will make a way for what is for you and me.
Every day I am alive means that God has more for me to experience, learn and give. He has brought me to today and I declare that the next 35 years of my life will be more meaningful, more dedicated, more devoted, and full of love and joy.
At this very moment, I’m typing this post in Antigua where I am enjoying the clear blue skies, fresh breeze, and fun with the family. God made a way at the appointed time and everything fell into place.
Blessed and oh so grateful!
Tip of the day: Be present in this day. Enjoy it. There is no need to worry about tomorrow. God has it covered. You are here, today! And that’s all that matters. Tomorrow will be a new day. But until then, remain present.
Until next time…
